It worked and I was able to play a full game of chess against the computer. Sometimes it was a little slow to load the computer's move, but it wasn't a huge problem. I didn't really like the red circles that indicated where the previous piece had just moved from. It might be better to have that only last for a few seconds instead of staying up until the next move. I would also like maybe a green circle that indicates what piece is in danger. After the first five or six moves they get a bit annoying though. The mooing was a good effect however, and the comp is suitably tough on expert. I really wish the restart button worked because then I could have played around with the other settings more. The colors of the game board should contrast with the background of the page a little more, I think. It looks like the white spaces on the board are transparent. One thing: it doesn't explain what the "restart" & "retract" buttons do. I can guess the "restart", but how to use the "retract"? Also, how about giving the player the chance to "resign". There were some ups & downs on the game, but when I made a mistake - and I knew it - I had the following options: close the window, do "restart", or play the game through. I think a "resign" button option with maybe some smarmy animation would have been cool. Oh - the sounds are a bit loud & jarring. Perhaps a low register? Nonetheless, thanks for the fun! Program left knight hanging to pawn capture for no particular reason several moves later. I'm rated about 2000 USCF, and I would guess this program might play around 800 USCF. Seems to take quite a while thinking about its next move if the player makes an unconventional move, might want to put a time limit on its thinking time or the player will get bored and move on rather than wait for it to finish considering. Otherwise this the best game anyone can ever play..... anonymous Overall 7/10. Pawns shouldn't promote to queens automatically. Sometimes a rook is preferrable in the case of a stalemate and a knight is very unique. It should have some sort of piece selector. I'd like to see which pieces have been taken off to the left. I reloaded to play another game, clicked on expert, but it was surely still on beginner. A different selection should automatically make the page refresh. The game is very easy to beat on beginner and amateur level. Those two levels are practically identical. On expert level opponent makes same very absurd an illogically moves. For example when I take my opponents figure and attack another one of his figures instead of to take my figure he ""run away"" with that figure! Sometimes he exchange stronger figure for weaker figure. It is not hard to beat the game on this level neither. Design is simple and nice and sounds are very fanny and amusing. John Locke The game froze about 5 moves in - I could still scroll the page and click links but the game window wouldn't do anything. I tried a second time and the game ran better, but the engine was very bad at chess even on expert level. It made obvious mistakes that I would expect a beginner to avoid.
