RegExRenameList.sh (GPL)

Several weeks ago, I posted RegExRename.sh on this site, which was a Bourne Shell script that will search for a particular regular expression in a file name and replace it with another string. It was a very useful command-line utility. However, one of its shortcoming was that you can't pipe a list of files into it. Since then, I wrote the RegExRenameList.sh, which overcame that shortcoming.

RegExRenameList.sh takes advantage of the RegExRename.sh (GPL) Bourne shell script, which is also available on this site. So to use this script, you will need to download the RegExRename.sh script if you don't already have it.

RegExRenameList.sh is distributed as executable source code under the GNU General Public License. Please see the license agreement elsewhere on this site.

Usage

  RegExRenameList.sh "srch str" "repl str"

Example

  where.sh "Hello World.*" | RegExRenameList.sh "Hello" "My"

Tip: You can download a copy of where.sh on this site as well.
