Do I Have to Buy the App Again After an Uninstall?

Ever wonder what happens after you buy an Android app from the Google Market and uninstall it? The most common question is whether you have to purchase it again if you ever want to install it again. This question has been on my mind this past six months.

I found the answer tonight. Just last week, I bought my first app on the Google Market: SlydeBoard. It is an alternative input method that encourages touch-typing. I left it installed for a few days so that Google Market would't think that I am cancelling the order.

Tonight I took the chance and uninstalled it. My palms sweated the entire time wondering whether I have to pay 2 bucks again. As I type in "SlydeBoard" in the Android Market search my hands shaked like a 9.0 earthquake.

When the results for "SlydeBoard" came back, my whole body liquidified as if all the tense muscles melted into fat. Google Market marked "SlydeBoard" as "Purchased" on my account and I was able to install it again without paying the $2 fee that would bankrupt my family.

In all seriousness, you can uninstall purchased Android apps at whim and re-install them at will. Therefore you can switch Android phones any time and get all your apps back as long as you use the same Google account.

Thanks for your advice. I have a question. Can I use my paid apps on my new Android phone while I am still using them on my old Android phone?

I believe you can if you use the same Google account on both phones. If you don't use the same account, then you probably have to buy it again.
