WebCopy (Freeware)

WebCopy is a simple command-line Java program that will download any web page specified in its first argument. It will store the downloaded web page into a file specified in its second argument. The web page is specified as an URL. Because WebCopy is written as a command-line utility, it can be used in custom batch files and custom scripts. And written in Java, it will run on any Java-supported operating system with no need for recompilation and no need to change of your custom scripts. All these benefit combined makes WebCopy a very versatile utility.

WebCopy takes advantage of the CI Class Package. You will have to download the package and install it if you don't have it already.

WebCopy is distributed as Freeware. Please see the "Freeware License Agreement" elsewhere on this site.

Usage

  java WebCopy "url" "filename"

Example

Note that the destination file cannot exist. If the destination file exists, then WebCopy.class will output "[file name] already exists".

After using the Java version and the PHP version of WebCopy for years, I decided that it is better if WebCopy overwrites the destination file. WebCopy becomes much more useful that way, because you can now WebCopy to a temporary files that is pre-generated for processing. The new version of WebCopy, attached below overwrites destination file if it exists.

Title: WebCopy.php (GPL)
Weblog: Cynosure.X International
Excerpt: WebCopy.php is another one of those scripts that I had to rewrite, because my original Java version (see elsewhere on this site) doesn't run on the new web hosting service. WebCopy.php is a PHP command-line script that helps you copy a web page to a local file. It only accepts two parameters: 1) . . .
